Some of you may remember my very unsuccessful reader poll, where I (jokingly) asked for helping choosing which of seven 2008 weddings to attend. I really wish I could have gone to all of them, but my au pair job and finances forced me to pick only one.
Adriana and I have been close friends for ten years now (!!!) and I am so happy I was there for her big day. This is the same group of friends from Meg and Will's wedding in 2007, and I hadn't seen many of them since. The wedding was absolutely beautiful, set in a Japanese garden. Adriana was glowing, and there's nothing quite like seeing your friends commit to a life of sex with just one person to make you tear up.
Here's the happy couple, during their first dance:
The following photo reminds me of this one, except the brides are switched! I wish it were in color, since all of our dresses were such fun colors, but anyway: At the post-wedding "party" in the lobby of an anonymous hotel, with takeout pizza and too much booze: I'm surprised the hotel didn't shush us, since we took that photo roughly a billion times, trying to get everyone in the air as the shutter clicked. It doesn't look like it, but my little pink shoes are actually off the ground, albeit nowhere as high as Will's.All in all, it was a fantastic weekend, and I was so happy to see my friends again. And Meg and Will, when are you coming to visit? I think we need to introduce Paris to Will's dance moves:
The past several years I've averaged one wedding a year. In 2005 I was a bridesmaid for Rachel and Matt; in 2006 I did a reading for Erin and Russell; and in 2007 I did a reading for Meg and Will. Somewhere in there was a second cousin's wedding in Chicago, but overall I have not been overwhelmed with weddings.
Until now. In 2008 I have a grand total of SIX weddings I would love to attend. If I were still in New York, I would be going to all of them (except the day when there are two, of course). And now, I'll most likely be able to make it to only one of them. There's simply no way I could a) afford all the plane fare or b) take that much vacation time. The first one I'm definitely missing is my first cousin's wedding in April. Then, on the same day in August, there's both my second cousin's wedding in Pasadena and my Brown roommate's wedding in Boston. September will have me missing out on Grant's wedding in Nashville (I think?), and October is my friend Alexis' wedding in New York. Then my very close friend Adriana had to go get engaged this past Saturday (whoop!!!), and it looks like her wedding might possibly be in October, too.
So I have an idea. I'll go to one wedding. And I'll let you pick which one. Here are photos of all the couples. Leave your vote in the comments section, and choose wisely!
Jeremy and Lisa: Jeremy is my first cousin (Note that there's no way I can go to this one, as it's very soon)
Pammy and Michael: Pammy is my second cousin (I don't have a picture of Pammy and her fiancé, so here's a picture of the two of us at the aforementioned Chicago wedding)
Kira and Jon: Kira is my college roomie, and Jon is a friend
Grant and Jennifer: Grant is a friend
Alexis and Jesse: Alexis is a friend (again, no picture of Jesse so here's Lex looking hot on her lonesome)
Adriana and Ben: Adge is one of my besties
I realize that this is the price I pay for living abroad. But it still sucks.
It's been just about three months since I last posted, so I don't even know if anyone is reading this anymore. Regardless, I'm going to try and post a bit more than I have been since my return to New York.
Two weeks ago two of my favorite people, Meg and Will, finally got married after dating for, oh, about a decade. The wedding was in New Hampshire, at Meg's family's compound on Lake Winnipesaukee. It was a beautiful, although freezing, weekend. I drove up on Thursday morning with Jenn, Nick, and Franni. There were barbecues, fires, roasted marshmallows, drinking, board games, dancing, sailing, swimming, in addition to all the wedding events!
Here's a bunch of the bridesmaids, friends from college, and me (I was doing a reading during the ceremony) at the rehearsal dinner:
And Adriana and Jen once we all changed into sweats cause we were freezing: Franni and Nikesh in the gazebo: The view from the front lawn: Joy, the maid-of-honor, helping Meg into her dress: Will and Meg during the ceremony: And the first dance:A few weeks earlier I was at the fantastic day-long bridal shower and bachelorette party. Here' s a shot from the bachelorette party, a few drinks in: I'm not quite sure why Meg is being guided to grope me by Joy, but there are lots of incredibly scandalous photos from that night. My favorite is this naughty one: The wedding was so much fun, as we all always knew it would be. It was also surprisingly free of drama. We started on time, everyone looked beautiful, and the ceremony went off without a hitch. My group finally left, reluctantly, at 1:30 after hours of dancing to a live cover band. It was a fantastic weekend.
